Lea County has been participating in the flood program since it was adopted April 29, 2010. The floodplain department oversees new development within the county to assist in the NFIP which allows citizens of Lea County to obtain affordable flood insurance for their property. Home owners are required to obtain permits from the county to develop on their property to assure that they are meeting all requirements of the Flood Damage Ordinance.
"Development-means any man-made change to improved and unimproved real estate, including but not limited to buildings or other structures, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation or drilling operations or storage of equipment or materials."
Permits for new development can fill out the "Lea County Application." (See "Addressing/New Construction" site)
