All parks within Lea County have a main camera that pans at all times. Then there are other cameras that are stationary offering complete coverage of park activity for better public safety. Lea County Communication Authority monitors all the park cameras from within Dispatch for any illegal activity. In addition to these public safety cameras, all of the parks also have a gunshot recognition system. These cameras are designed to recognize the sound of any firearm. If a gunshot is detected, these cameras instantly zoom in on the shooter so dispatch can get a description of the shooter and pass that information on to law enforcement. Also, dispatch will be able to give the responding officers the location of any victim(s).
