Floodplain Information
Lea County has been participating in the flood program since it was adopted on April 29, 2010. The floodplain department oversees new development within the county to assist in the NFIP which allows citizens of Lea County to obtain affordable flood insurance for their property. Homeowners are required to obtain permits from the county to develop on their property to assure that they are meeting all requirements of the Flood Damage Ordinance.
"Development means any man-made change to improved and unimproved real estate, including but not limited to buildings or other structures, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation or drilling operations or storage of equipment or materials."
The Lea County Application will need to be completed and submitted prior to any new development (See "Addressing/New Construction" site)
