PLANNING & MAPPING
Departmental Mission: Planning & mapping will identify transportation needs, options and resources, County and State Highways as well as public needs in County for subdivision development addressing and miscellaneous road issues. Departmental Goals: The Planning Department's goal is to compile data through research and fieldwork to provide useful information for prioritizing projects, tracking costs, selecting projects, project supervision and general knowledge of not only County but as well State Highway transportation infrastructure, compile database for addressing and keep updated. Departmental Strategy: Data will be collected in the field by department employees and will include traffic volumes, pavement roughness, and pavement distress, e.g. cracking, roadway geometries, crash data, sign data, cattle guard, culverts and photo log of each roadway. Right-of-way data and safety issues logged and categorized. Develop a more personalized relationship between Lea County and the New Mexico Highway Department and all communities in Lea County. Departmental Objectives: Perform traffic studies with employees and using State Highway Department. Implement pavement evaluation program. Coordinate between law enforcement for crash data using programs asked for in Capital Outlay this year. Document signs, cattle guards and photo log. Geometries of roadways will be determined by surveying and preparation of plans for each road. Continue to sit and participate on the Southeastern Regional Planning Organization, City of Hobbs Planning and Zoning Board Subcommittee and hold regular meetings and prospective entities to share and provide information about needs. |
