Departmental Mission: The County airports department is tasked with operating and maintaining two general aviation facilities located adjacent to the communities of Lovington and Jal. In addition, Lea County owns and operates one commercial air service facility located in Hobbs.
Departmental Goals: To provide a safe environment for the pilots and the traveling public. We feel it is important to present a professional image for out-of-town business prospects and the local citizenry because the airport serves as a gateway to our community.
Departmental Strategy: Adherence to all federal and state regulations and procedures so we can ensure safety and compliance. An aggressive approach will be taken in obtaining grants and alternative financing which is vital for our continued infrastructure development.
Departmental Objectives: Clear communication and a willingness to work together between all factions utilizing our airports system. On-going training and review for all county employees assigned to the airports department, periodic testing and review for all contract employees (tower and aircraft rescue personnel) regarding safety and security.
